The regional sarees have their own style depending on the cultural background of the various regions. All sarees have three areas that highlight their beauty: the longitudinal borders, the body and the pallu or border. The designs and the patterns of a saree are constructed as per the colours and motifs specific to that region or community. Motifs in Indian regional sarees are basically derived from temple architectures, sculpture, painting and literature. Most of the regions have their own traditional distinctive designs of borders and pallus. In some states, the weavers are specialised in specific prints and designs. Like for example, the ikkat prints in west bengal or the tye dye or bandhani prints from Rajasthan, chikan embroidery from lucknow etc. Similarly certain sarees are specific to the fabric material of that area like the kanjeevaram silk saree from South India or Muga or pat silk from Assam etc. The Indian sarees by designs have now taken a new look as the artisans create a fusion of tradition and modern trend. This combination has made the sarees reach a height of appreciation in the international market.
